Common questions

Movie poster design FAQ.

Straight answers for producers and directors briefing Drix Agency. For a quote, send logline, deadline, platforms and stills you can legally use — there is no minimum budget.

How long does a movie poster take to design?

First concepts typically arrive in 24–48 hours. A locked print file still needs your feedback cycle on top of that. Rush festival dates are quoted separately when they require jumping the queue.

How many revisions are included?

Revision support is unlimited until you approve the final artwork. A new brief — new lead, new genre, new film — is a new scope, not a polish round.

Do you work with independent filmmakers or only studios?

Both. Drix Agency designs movie posters and key art for independent producers, directors, marketing teams and larger campaigns. There is no minimum budget to start a conversation.

What file formats and deliverables do we receive?

Organized print and digital files: typically a layered master, a 27×40 inch print PDF at 300 DPI, a 1920×1080 streaming image, and social crops (1080×1080 and 1080×1920) when the campaign needs them.

What's the difference between a movie poster and key art?

Key art is the master campaign image. A movie poster is one finished size — usually a theatrical one-sheet — built from that key art. Campaigns need the system; a festival wall may only need the poster.

How much does a movie poster cost?

Independent films often plan $400–$2,500 for a single custom poster and $1,500–$6,000+ for a key art campaign. These are planning ranges, not a public rate card. Drix quotes per project.

What files does a movie poster designer need from me?

Logline, genre, deadline with timezone, stills you can legally use, three reference posters, and the sizes you must deliver. If a festival or distributor sent a spec PDF, attach it.

Do you deliver PSD or source files?

Yes. A layered master (PSD or equivalent) is part of a standard package so titles, laurels and crops can be edited later without starting over.

Who owns the copyright and image licensing?

You must have rights to photography and likenesses you send. Finished artwork is licensed for the film’s marketing as agreed in the quote. We do not clear stock, union stills or studio IP for you unless that is scoped.

Do you use AI to generate movie posters?

Drix Agency is a human-designed poster and key art studio. Photo manipulation, compositing and typography are directed by designers. We do not sell unedited AI one-sheets as finished campaign art.

Can you design for FilmFreeway submissions?

Yes. Festival posters are designed as print-accurate one-sheets with a clean zone for laurels, plus the digital size your portal asks for. Confirm the festival’s current file limits in your brief.

What size is a US theatrical one-sheet?

The standard US theatrical poster is 27×40 inches (686×1016 mm) at 300 DPI. Deliver as PDF/X or TIFF/PSD with bleed if the printer requires it.

What size is streaming key art?

Major platforms commonly use 1920×1080 px (16:9) title art. Some distributors also request 1400×2100 px portraits. Confirm with your distributor before lock.

Do you place festival laurels?

We design with space for laurels from the first lock, then place official selection artwork when you have the files. Last-minute wreaths on a busy one-sheet usually mean a redesign.

How many concepts do we get?

The first round typically includes distinctive directions so you can pick a lane. We then refine the chosen direction until approval rather than generating unlimited unrelated movies.

What photo quality do you need?

The highest-resolution stills you have, with cleared talent. A sharp close-up beats a compressed trailer screenshot. If you have no stills yet, say so — we can concept from type, illustration or licensed imagery.

Can the artwork be used commercially?

Yes, for the film’s marketing as quoted: theatrical, festival, streaming and social. Merchandise or third-party brand use needs to be in the brief.

What is a title treatment?

A title treatment is the custom typography system for the film’s name — weight, tracking, texture — that must survive a 200-pixel thumbnail and a 27×40 print. It is part of key art, not a free font on top.

Do you design billing blocks?

We leave hierarchy for billing, quotes and legal when you need them. Send the copy and the union/legal requirements. Crowded billing should not kill the faces on a streaming tile — we often make a print version and a cleaner digital crop.

Do you work with international clients?

Yes. The studio is remote and works in English with filmmakers worldwide. Email info@drix.agency or use the contact form — include a callback number so we can follow up on the brief. There is no requirement to be in a specific city.

Can you do rush delivery?

Yes, when a festival or release date cannot move. Rush is quoted on top of the base scope because it reorders the calendar. Put the real deadline and timezone in the first email.

What is your movie poster design process?

Discover, concept, refine, deliver. We review the film and platforms, present directions, sharpen with your notes, and hand over named, sorted print and digital files.

Should I redesign an existing movie poster?

Redesign when the current art fails at thumbnail size, the tone no longer matches the cut, or a distributor needs a campaign system. Do not redesign only because you are tired of the image.

How do I brief a movie poster designer in one paragraph?

Audience, the feeling the image must sell in one second, platforms, deadline, cleared stills, and three reference posters. That paragraph is enough to start concepts at Drix Agency.
