For independent productions

Movie poster design
for indie filmmakers.

Independent films compete for attention against studio marketing budgets. We work directly with independent producers, directors and self-distributing filmmakers to build key art that looks like it belongs on a major release — without needing a major release budget.

Why indie teams work with us

How the process works

We start with a short creative consultation about your film, audience and release plan. From there we develop concepts, refine the direction you respond to, and deliver organized, high-resolution files ready for print and digital use. There's no minimum budget requirement to start a conversation.

Independent films usually need a theatrical one-sheet for festivals or premieres, a 1920×1080 image for platforms, and social crops that still read when the UI covers the edges. We treat those as one key art system so you are not buying three unrelated pictures. First concepts typically arrive in 24–48 hours. Revisions stay open until you approve the artwork — you are not buying a revision pack.

What to send for an indie poster quote

Send the logline, genre, deadline with a timezone, and whether you need print, digital, or both. Attach stills you can legally use and three reference posters you respect. If a festival portal has file-size limits, include that PDF. That package is enough to quote without a long discovery call. There is no minimum budget to start.

Typical independent-film planning ranges (not a public rate card) run about $400–$2,500 for a single custom poster and $1,500–$6,000+ for a key art campaign with streaming and social adaptations. Rush festival dates are quoted on top. Compare bids on the same deliverable list: layered master, 300 DPI print PDF, and the crops you will actually publish. Read the movie poster cost guide before you budget.

What “indie” actually changes in the artwork

Independent films usually have fewer cleared stills, a harder deadline, and a portal that will compress the file. The poster still has to sit next to studio titles on a wall or a grid. We design for that mismatch: one strong focal point, type that survives 200 pixels, and a master that can grow into streaming crops after a sale instead of a second hero six months later.

You talk to the people making the picture. There is no account-manager layer. First concepts typically arrive in 24–48 hours. Unlimited revisions continue until you approve the artwork. If the cut is still moving, say so — we can lock composition and leave room for a later still. If talent likeness is sensitive, say that before the first composite.

A practical indie deliverable list

Most independent releases are covered by a print-ready US 27×40 at 300 DPI, a 1920×1080 streaming image, and 1080×1080 / 1080×1920 if you have a publicist. Festival portals may also cap megabytes — attach that PDF. Layered source is part of a standard package so laurels can land without a midnight redesign. Compare quotes on that list, not on the word “poster.”

Planning ranges for a single custom poster often sit around $400–$2,500; a campaign with streaming and social is often $1,500–$6,000+. Drix quotes per project. There is no minimum budget to start. How to brief a designer and sizes and formats are the two pages to send your producing partner.

Indie poster questions

Is there a minimum budget for indie poster design?

No. Drix Agency has no minimum budget to start a conversation. Quotes follow deliverables, complexity and deadline — not a gatekeeping floor.

What should an independent producer send?

Logline, genre, deadline with timezone, stills you can legally use, three reference posters, and whether you need print, digital or both. Attach any festival spec PDF.

Can you work around a festival deadline?

Yes. Put the portal name, file size limits and timezone in the first email. Rush is quoted when it reorders the calendar. First concepts still typically land in 24–48 hours.

Do indie packages include streaming sizes?

Say what you need. Many indie teams start with a one-sheet, then add 16:9 and social from the same master. That is cheaper than two unrelated pictures later.
